Paola Inverardi


Paola Inverardi is Rector of the University of L’Aquila and Italian National Delegate for ICT in Horizon2020. She received a Laurea degree summa cum laude in Computer Science at University of Pisa on February 1981 and is full professor in Computer Science at the University of L’Aquila since 1994. In the past she worked at the Istituto di Elaborazione dell’Informazione (IEI) at CNR of Pisa (1984-1994) ad at the research center of Olivetti in Pisa (1981-1984), where she was involved in the first Italian national project on Computer Science. She is Rector of the University of L’Aquila since October 2013. Paola Inverardi’s main research area is in the application of rigorous methods to software production in order to improve  software quality.  In the last decade her research interests  mainly concentrated in the  field of software architectures.Recent  research  directions  address  the  problem  of  dynamically adapting  mobile  applications  to  contexts  that  can  exhibit  different  degrees  of  resources  availability  and  the automatic synthesis of connectors for heterogeneous systems. She   has   been  member  at  large  of  the  ACM SIFSOFT (ACM  Special  Interest  Group  on  Software  Engineering)  Executive Committee and is member   of   the   ACM Europe Council.  She  is  reviewer  for,  and  member  of,  evaluation  committees  of  national  and  international  research  funding agencies  and  universities:  in  the  last  two  years  for  European  Commission,  INRIA,  Swiss  National  Science Foundation,  Swedish  Research  Council,  Dutch  Research  Council,  German  Research  Foundation,  Netherlands Organisation forScientific Research, Vienna Science and Technology Fund, CHIST-ERA, Fonds National de la Recherche Luxembourg, Academy of Finland, ETH-Zurich, University of Lugano.  Paola has (co-)authored over 160 publications in international journals and conference and workshop proceedings(DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, Google Scholar).

Yücel Karabulut


Yücel is Director of Product Management for Oracle’s Public Cloud Security, leading Oracle’s security, privacy and compliance efforts for PaaS and IaaS products. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Computer Security at Macquarie University. Yuecel joined Oracle in 2015 bringing more than 18 years of academic and industrial experience doing research, design and implementation of security features for software applications and distributed systems.  Previously, he was Product Line Manager for VMware’s multi-billion dollar Cloud Infrastructure and Virtualization business, focusing on the next-generation Cloud Platform security capabilities. Prior to joining VMware, Yuecel was Chief Security Advisor and Sr. Director of Product Security Alliances and Go-To-Market for SAP. He is the author of over 32 peer-reviewed publications in the area of information security and the editor of two security conference proceedings books. Yuecel received his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He also holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Dortmund.

Domenico Laforenza


Dr. Domenico Laforenza is Director of the Institute for Informatics and Telematics (www.iit.cnr.it) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) since 1 July 2008. He is also head of the Registry for domain names for Italy (ccTLD “.IT” –  www.nic.it). Since April 2015 is member of the Horizon 2020 “Future and Emerging Technologies” Advisory Group.
On January 2014 Dr. Laforenza was elected President of ERCIM AISBL (European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics) (www.ercim.org). On January 2013 he was elected President of the CNR Pisa Research Campus (Area della Ricerca CNR di Pisa)
He was responsible for the High Performance Computing Laboratory (http://hpc.isti.cnr.it/) at the CNR Institute of Information Science and Technologies until 30 June 2008. Dr. Laforenza received the doctoral degree in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science of University of Pisa in 1977. Since 1997. He started work at CNUCE in 1972 where, during his period of employment, he was operator, programmer and performance evaluator until 1981. Since 1981 he has been researcher in Computer Science. His main areas of interest are: high performance computing, parallel and distributed systems programming, Grid and Internet computing. From 1996 to 2006 Dr. Laforenza was professor of Parallel and Distributed Applications at the Computer Science Department of the University of Pisa. Dr. Laforenza is author of numerous publications and organiser of  national and international ICT events.

Mazin Yousif


Dr. Yousif is the Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Architecture for the Royal Dutch Shell Global account at T-Systems, International with focus on a very diverse portfolio (e.g., Cloud, Big Data, Hosting, SAP, Databases, security, End-user computing…). Before joining T-Systems, he was with IBM Canada, Global Technology Services, serving as its Chief Technology Officer for cloud computing. He was also a principal engineer at Intel leading many projects on energy optimizations, virtualization and autonomic computing. At Intel, he was also a principal leader defining the InfiniBand Architecture and co-chaired the management working group in the InfiniBand Trade Association. He spent some time with IBM xSeries Division in Research Triangle Park, NC. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor at Louisiana Tech University from 1993-1995. Dr. Yousif serves as a Technology Advisor and Board Member for Simudyne Corporation. He also chairs the Advisory Board of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM). He is also the Editor-In-Chief of the IEEE Cloud Computing Magazine. He founded the NSF Industry/University Cooperative research Center for Autonomic Computing. He was an adjunct professor in several universities including Duke and Arizona. He has served as the General Chair or Program Chair for many conferences and serves in the editorial board of many journals. He is a frequent speaker in academic and industry conferences on topics related to cloud computing, big data and autonomic computing. He has also published extensively and was an IEEE Distinguished Visitors Program speaker from 2008 – 2013.
